History Tutoring
When students only read about events in textbooks or memorize leaders and details from hundreds of years ago, they can lose interest fast. The help of a great history tutor makes history relevant and connect to current events. The result can be more engaged citizens and mature adults.

History Subjects
Students often have a choice in their study of history in high school, but a common complaint is that none of the subjects seems relevant. Whether you have opted for a European History elective or are suffering through how a bill becomes a law in a U.S. Government course, a tutor can keep you motivated to want to learn the material and ace the information to keep your GPA high. We'll help you analyze events, connect them to current political ideas and spark a deeper interest in history.

Why History Tutors are Important
In a recent study that was conducted and reported by the National Assessment of Educational Progress, just 18 percent of eighth graders in the U.S. demonstrated proficiency in history, demonstrating a clear need for history tutoring. The study of history is important for both understanding the world and the people who live in it as well as for your own life. By studying the past, we are better able to take action in the future and to understand the themes of culture and society. History also helps people develop strong moral identities and to gain better understandings of others.
The study of history helps students become more disciplined thinkers. By learning the type of critical thinking that history classes require, you may be better prepared for your SAT or ACT.
The College Board recommends that students who want to go to college take at least a full year of U.S. history, a half year of U.S. government, a half year of world history and a half year of any other history subject. Highly selective schools such as Harvard state that they look for a minimum of two years of history courses but prefer three, and it is important that the selected courses are the most rigorous offerings at your school such as IB or AP history courses. If you want to attend an elite institution, you will need excellent grades in your history classes, and you should choose to take advanced placement or international baccalaureate history courses if they are available at your school.
The Going Ivy Difference for Learning History
While there are many tutoring companies and books available for history tutoring, the reasons to choose Going Ivy are clear. We are the industry leaders because of our results-driven, tailored approach to helping our students. We have world-class tutors who are subject-matter experts in history courses. Our tutors start by assessing your learning style, your current history knowledge base, your areas of strength and your weaknesses. This helps them to develop and implement teaching plans that are targeted to help you gain the largest improvements.
Many tutoring companies offer to tutor in large classes. In these classes, the tutor teaches to the lowest common denominator. Our experience has shown us that students do not do well in these types of learning environments because they end up spending a significant amount of wasted time simply waiting for others in the classes to catch up to where they need to be to take everyone to the next step. We work directly with our students in one-on-one tutoring sessions so that you are constantly building on concepts while actively growing your knowledge base and thinking abilities, connecting actions of one leader to the next, or one historical event to its aftermath. We are focused on helping you become more motivated to learn history, and our history tutors work to help you enjoy the subject and to become actively engaged in the learning process.
We understand how many high school students are juggling multiple responsibilities, including studying for classes, participating in extracurricular activities, volunteering and working. As a result, our history tutors are flexible when they schedule their tutoring sessions, working around your schedule. Our tutors will meet you near your school or home, or you can choose to receive your tutoring at our conveniently located tutoring center at the Biltmore and Arcadia area of Phoenix. We also offer history tutoring via video conferencing with leading history scholars at top educational institutions. We have tutors who are embedded on the campuses of such schools as Harvard, Princeton and Stanford, allowing you to get a glimpse of life on the campuses of some of the country’s most elite institutions. Our tutors are available to answer your questions by email, text or phone 24 hours per day and seven days per week. They are dedicated professionals who want to see you grow and succeed.
